On the Farm

As I said in the reading road trip post we went to the farm last week for a few days. After seeing the reading road trip the next thing up on my list was to help my mom get the house in order for her 40th class reunion. I won't bore you with the detail of that but will share a bit about the kids while we were there. Matthew came back to the farm with us and he and Olivia were little explores wondering around the farm (Olivia in her rain boots so she could splash extra hard in the puddles) with their kazoos. Not once did we have to worry or wonder where they had gone off to as all we had to do was put an ear up (or cover our ears) and we would hear the wonderful sounds of a 3 and 4 year old making slobbery music with their much loved Dan Wardell kazoos. When asked where they had gotten the kazoos from Papa or uncle Marc, Olivia would tout, from "story time at the library". However, only to be corrected by Matthew saying, "the public library." Dan taught the kids to shut off the TV, go outside, play and read a good book this summer. But two days later when Olivia woke up the first thing she asked for were cartoons. I reminded her what she had learned and she replied. "But I'm not going to the library for story time today." I guess that meant she could watch TV. Later that day she did end up attending story hour with Matthew (and his sisters) at his public library. She was so excited when she returned because she had made Andrew a Number One Dad ribbon. She was so proud and excited to give it to him she forgot it at Aunt Christy's house...opps. But Aunt Christy mailed it to us and Olivia was still able to give it to her daddy for Father's Day! While on the farm Olivia even got to see up close and personal her very first real life, gotta touch him and scream frog. The excitement of the farm are endless. No wonder Karen and I were able to come up with endless hours of our very own show, Discovery.

William was with us on this trip despite the lack of stories about him. It took him a bit to get used to the change in environment...or his teeth were bothering him...or whatever it was that made him a little fussy. By the last day he was back to his happy little self and enjoying time with uncle Marc and Papa John. And apparently he likes his hand in his mouth. Maybe it was the teeth that were getting to him. :)

Reading Road Trip

On Monday, June 15th Olivia, William and I ventured to my parents farm for a few days. Our main goal on Monday was to see Dan Wardell in the IPTV Kids Reading Road Trip. Due to my not paying close attention and time just passing me by, we missed the fun here in Des Moines so we had to catch it in Glidden. We went there with Aunt Christy, and cousins, Tiffany, Megan, Mariah and Matthew. William stayed home with Grams and took a nap. Boo hoo, he missed the fun.
It was a blast, despite William's absence. The theme this year was about creativity. Olivia took it very seriously. She was very theatrical and really got into the show. I'm so proud. My little thespian! :) Matthew is Olivia's cousin in the red t-shirt, check him out he is so cute too!!

Dan was very impressed with Olivia's participation...I'm sure of it. ;) As a little reward for attending the show each child received a kazoo. Oh my the fun that is to come from the kazoos!!!
